Introduction To Incontinence Advice
Bladder or bowel leaks are more common than many people realise. Incontinence can become prevalent, especially as we get older or as a side effect of other treatments or health conditions. In fact, the NHS estimates around 14 million (1 in 5) people in the UK experience issues with their bladder.
It’s nothing to be ashamed of, and it’s certainly not something you have to manage alone. Whether it’s a light leak now and then or something that happens more regularly, there are ways to feel more comfortable, confident, and in control.
You're Not Alone
While bladder weakness is more common in women, many men experience it too, often linked to changes, such as an enlarged prostate. These changes can often be a normal part of ageing, and support is available.
If you're starting to notice any kind of leaks, we’d always recommend you speak to your GP, a district nurse, or your local continence service in the first instance. They can help identify the cause, explore possible treatments, and recommend products or techniques that make daily life easier.
Help Is Available
Getting advice from a healthcare professional can give you clarity, reassurance, and practical options. In some cases, there may be a treatment available. In others, there are simple ways to manage leaks so they don’t disrupt your day-to-day life.
